29in. nitro reproved Whitworth-steel chopperlump barrels, rib engraved 'JAMES WOODWARD & SONS. 64. ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON. S.W. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL', and gold-inlaid ' * 3' at the breech end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/2 choke;
29in. heavy nitro reproved Whitworth-steel chopperlump barrels (slightly loose on action), rib engraved 'JAMES WOODWARD & SONS. 64. ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON. S.W. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL', and gold-inlaid ' B 3' at the breech end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both;
each set of barrels with individual fore-end, serial numbered 5623 and 5890, the finials with '*3' and 'B3' in gold, small crack to 'B3' wood, action with carved arcaded fences, removable striker discs, the action face with 'THE AUTOMATIC' trade mark, toplever gold-inlaid '3*', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, protruding tumbler pivots with gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, fine acanthus scroll engraving, brushed finish, 15 1/4in. figured stock with Prince of Wales semi-pistolgrip with horn pistolgrip-cap, weight 6lb. 11oz. (3*) and 7lb. 4oz. (B3)

Barrels 5890 are a set of 29in. Whitworth Steel bullet barrels, completed 30th October 1905, built for the No. 1 gun (5621). Marked B over I in gold on rib.

Research would indicate Sir Charles Cust, Bart. to be Captain Sir Charles Leopold Cust (1864 - 1932) Bt, RN, GCVO, CB, CMG. He served in the Royal Navy on HMS Minotaur, Alexandra and Thunderer and also as the Equerry in Waiting to King George V.
